Yes, they do! Most parents are more concerned about their son's education than for their daughter's. Whilst parents may not intend to treat sons and daughters differently, research shows that they do. Sons appear to get preferential treatment in that they receive more helpful praise, more time is invested in them, and their abilities are often thought of in higher regard. They also provide better nutrition and medical care for boys than girls, and indulge in a host of other practices that discriminate against girls. Even in this day and age, families openly celebrate the birth of a son, while the birth of a daughter is not always greeted in the same manner.

For men, the standard that most parents put on them are things such as: Being tough (no crying), protecting girls from danger, as well as they have more freedom in general (in a non sexist way). Men tend to have more freedom then women because scientifically and logically, men are more likely to have more defense skills and usually the danger isn't aimed towards them.

RULES FOR MEN:

Usually the rules for men that their parents have set are pretty simple and straightforward. For example, curfew at 11:30pm, no disrespecting your parents, (or elders in general).

HOPES:

The hopes that parents have for their son are very similar to what they hope for their daughters. For example, many parents would like their sons to be financially stable, have a family (so they can have grandkids which I know a lot of parents that want this), and this kind of connects to the first reason, but if your a doctor, that is like a dream come true for parents.

SIMULARITIES BETWEEN SON AND DAUGHTER RULES:

Both are most likely expected to have good grades, clean the house, be respectful, have a good job etc.

STANDARDS FOR GIRLS:

Majority of parents expect their daughters to be physically in shape, have good grades, become a mom when they are settled (if they want), be respectful etc.

RULES FOR GIRLS:

The rules for girls *daughters* seem to be unlimited (in my opinion lol). For example, curfew is cut shorter, (instead of 11:30pm it would be 11pm), in general parents will be more worried for their daughter about coming home late because more than most likely, girls are more targeted which I mentioned above. So to tie it all up, girls tend to have more rules then guys which can be unfair, but at the end day, its for the safety of their kids.
