"On the other hand, research shows that looking at electronic screens does make sleeping difficult. Artificial light increases alertness and makes it harder to fall asleep. Blue light can also keep the brain from releasing hormones that aid in reaching the deepest and most restful stages of sleep. These effects are especially powerful when the light-emitting devices are held close to the face. Sleep experts suggest putting away your phone or tablet for an hour or two before bedtime. If you can’t, at least use an app that dims and warms the light coming from the display."
