What if one day your life changed forever and you were denied every right you ever thought you had. The violation of Human Rights is emphasized throughout Marjane Satrapi's Persepolis by giving detailed descriptions of how people were treated during the Iranian Revolution.

The new government that wanted to take over Iran was desperate to get rid of anyone who wanted to oppose them and they did not care what they had to do in order to accomplish this. One night, after Marjane has gone to bed, her parents discuss all of the horrible things that are happening and her father says, "They burned down the Rex Cinema tonight... The doors had been locked from the outside a few minutes before the fire... They forbade people to rescue those locked inside" (14). In the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, it is stated in Article 3 that everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of a person.

I then discuss the use and practice of counterelaims in investment treaty arbitration in general, and then analyse the possibility to use host State counterclaims to bring a human rights-based claim against foreign investors.
