I want to know about the history of The Second Opium War

Answers

Answer 1

Answer:

The Second Opium War was a war of aggression against China jointly launched by Britain and France from October 1856 to October 1860 with the support of the United States and Russia. The purpose is for Britain and France to further open up the Chinese market and expand their aggressive interests in China. Because Britain and France launched wars under the pretext of the Yarrow Incident and the Horse Priest Incident respectively, it was called "The Arrow War" by the British. Also known as the Anglo-French expedition to China or the Second Anglo-Chinese War. At the same time, because this war can be seen as the continuation and expansion of the First Opium War (the essential purpose of the two wars is the same), it is also called the "Second Opium War".

In 1860, the Anglo-French army invaded Beijing, the Qing Emperor fled to Chengde, and the Anglo-French army broke into the Yuanmingyuan and plundered the jewelry and burned it. After the war, Tsarist Russia claimed to be "mediating and meritorious" after sending troops, and coerced the Qing government to cede more than 1.5 million square kilometers of territory, thus becoming the biggest winner. The war ended with the Qing government being forced to sign the Treaty of Beijing.

The Second Opium War forced the Qing government to sign the Sino-Russian Peace Treaty, the Treaty of Tianjin, and the Treaty of Beijing, and the aggression of the great powers deepened. As a result, China lost more than 1.5 million square kilometers of territory in the northeast and northwest, and after the war, the Qing government was able to concentrate its efforts on suppressing the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom and maintaining its rule. The forces of foreign aggression have expanded to the coastal provinces and the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River.

Explain ONE historical development that contributed to the dissolution of empires after World War II

Answers

The formation of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

One historical development that contributed to the dissolution of empires after World War II was the rise of nationalism and demands for self-determination among colonized peoples.

What was the rise of nationalism?

The rise of nationalism refers to the emergence and growth of the idea that people sharing a common cultural, linguistic, or historical identity should form a separate political entity or state.

This idea gained momentum in the 19th century, and it played a significant role in the formation of new nation-states and the dismantling of empires in the 20th century.

Nationalism can take various forms, ranging from peaceful movements seeking greater cultural recognition or autonomy, to more aggressive movements seeking political independence or dominance over others.

Nationalism has often been a double-edged sword, as it can be a source of pride and unity for a people, but it can also lead to conflict and aggression towards other groups.

The Balfour Declaration & McMahon Correspondences" letters would help lead to peaceful conduct as they recognized the two-state solution.

What were the Balfour Declaration and McMahon Correspondences?

The Balfour Declaration refers to the public support by Great Britain to recognize an independent state of Israel in Palestine.

The Balfour Declaration was made in 1917 during World War I, perhaps in hindsight, to avert the Holocaust of the Second World War.

On the other hand, the McMahon-Hussein Correspondences refer to a series of letters exchanged between the Sharif of Mecca and Great Britain, which recorded the agreement to recognize Arab independence in exchange for the Sharif launching the Arab Revolt against the Ottoman Empire.

Thus, while the Balfour Declaration contradicted the earlier McMahon-Hussein Correspondences, the two plans would lead to the two-state solution.

What is the Gestapo?

The Gestapo was the official secret police of Nazi Germany and in German-occupied Europe.

The force was created by Hermann Göring in 1933 by combining the various political police agencies of Prussia into one organisation. On 20 April 1934, oversight of the Gestapo passed to the head of the Schutzstaffel, Heinrich Himmler, who was also appointed Chief of German Police by Hitler in 1936. Instead of being exclusively a Prussian state agency, the Gestapo became a national one as a sub-office of the Sicherheitspolizei. From 27 September 1939, it was administered by the Reich Security Main Office. It became known as Amt 4 of the RSHA and was considered a sister organization to the Sicherheitsdienst.
