They have 4 pieces of wood that are each 65.5 inches long. How much wood will they have left over after making the frame and sandbox?

Answers

A square is a two-dimensional closed shape with 4 equal sides and 4 vertices. Its opposite sides are parallel to each other. We can also think of a square as a rectangle with equal length and breadth.

What is a square? The wood left over after making the frame and the sandbox is 10 inches.A square is a two-dimensional figure that has four sides and all four sides are equal.Definition. Square is a regular quadrilateral, which has all the four sides of equal length and all four angles are also equal. The angles of the square are at right-angle or equal to 90-degrees. Also, the diagonals of the square are equal and bisect each other at 90 degrees.A square is a four-sided figure whose sides are all the same length and whose angles are all right angles measuring 90 degrees.Square is slang for a person who is conventional and old-fashioned, similar to a Fuddy-duddy. This sense of the word "square" originated with the American jazz community in the 1940s, in reference to people out of touch with musical trends.

The area of a square is given as side².

We have,

The total amount of wood.

= 4 x 65.5

= 262 inches.

Frame:

Side = 5.25 inches

The perimeter of the frame.

= 4 x 5.25

= 21 inches

Now,

Sandbox:

The wood used for the sandbox.

= 11 x 21

= 231 inches

The remaining wood.

= 262 - (21 + 231)

= 262 - 252

= 10 inches

Thus,

The remaining wood is 10 inches.

Elijah is going to send some flowers to his wife. Kingwood Florist charges $1 per rose, plus
$20 for the vase. Anita's Flowers, in contrast, charges $3 per rose and $10 for the vase. If
Elijah orders the bouquet with a certain number of roses, the cost will be the same with
either flower shop. How many roses would there be?

Answers

the bouquet has 5 roses.

Answer:

There will be 5 roses.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let r = the number of roses.

Total cost =

numberof Roses × price per rose AND cost of vase

Total at Kingwood's

= 1r + 20

Total at Anita's

= 3r + 10

We are looking for r (the number of roses) when the totals at either place are the same.

Set them equal to each other.

1r + 20 = 3r + 10

Subtract 1r.

20 = 2r + 10

Subtract 10.

10 = 2r

Divide by 2.

10/2 = r

5 = r

When Elijah buys 5 roses, the cost is the same at either florist.

Check:

at Kingwood's

= 1r + 20

= 1(5) + 20

=25

At Anita's

= 3r + 10

= 3(5) + 10

= 15 + 10

= 25

5 roses costs $25 at either florist.

A scientist has two solutions, which she has labeled Solution A and Solution B. Each contains salt. She knows that Solution A is 65% salt and Solution B is 90% salt. She wants to obtain 140 ounces of a mixture that is 80% salt. How many ounces of each solution should she use?

Answers

Let x be the number of ounces of Solution A that the scientist uses, and let y be the number of ounces of Solution B that she uses. We can set up the following system of equations to represent the given information:

0.65x + 0.90y = 140 * 0.80 = 112
x + y = 140

To solve this system of equations, we can first multiply the second equation by -1 and add the resulting equations:

-1 * (x + y = 140)
-x - y = -140

0.65x + 0.90y = 112
-x - y = -140

-0.35x - 0.10y = -28

Next, we can divide both sides of the second equation by -0.1 to get rid of the fractional coefficient:

-0.35x - 0.10y = -28
(-0.1/-0.1) * (-0.35x - 0.10y) = (-0.1/-0.1) * -28
-3.5x - y = -28

Finally, we can add the resulting equations to eliminate one of the variables:

-3.5x - y = -28
0.65x + 0.90y = 112

0.35x + 0.90y = 84

Dividing both sides by 0.35, we find that x = 240.

Substituting this value back into the equation x + y = 140, we find that y = -100. Since y represents the number of ounces of Solution B, this is not a valid solution. This means that there is no solution to the system of equations, and the scientist cannot obtain a mixture that is exactly 80% salt using these two solutions.

Read chapter 1, The Prison-Door, from The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne and answer the question that follows.A throng of bearded men, in sad-colored garments and gray, steeple-crowned hats, intermixed with women, some wearing hoods, and others bareheaded, was assembled in front of a wooden edifice, the door of which was heavily timbered with oak, and studded with iron spikes. The founders of a new colony, whatever Utopia of human virtue and happiness they might originally project, have invariably recognized it among their earliest practical necessities to allot a portion of the virgin soil as a cemetery, and another portion as the site of a prison. In accordance with this rule, it may safely be assumed that the forefathers of Boston had built the first prison-house, somewhere in the vicinity of Cornhill, almost as seasonably as they marked out the first burial-ground, on Isaac Johnsons lot, and round about his grave, which subsequently became the nucleus of all the congregated sepulchres in the old church-yard of Kings Chapel. Certain it is, that, some fifteen or twenty years after the settlement of the town, the wooden jail was already marked with weather-stains and other indications of age, which gave a yet darker aspect to its beetle-browed and gloomy front. The rust on the ponderous iron-work of its oaken door looked more antique than anything else in the New World. Like all that pertains to crime, it seemed never to have known a youthful era. Before this ugly edifice, and between it and the wheel-track of the street, was a grass-plot, much overgrown with burdock, pig-weed, apple-peru, and such unsightly vegetation, which evidently found something congenial in the soil that had so early borne the black flower of civilized society, a prison. But, on one side of the portal, and rooted almost at the threshold, was a wild rose-bush, covered, in this month of June, with its delicate gems, which might be imagined to offer their fragrance and fragile beauty to the prisoner as he went in, and to the condemned criminal as he came forth to his doom, in token that the deep heart of Nature could pity and be kind to him. This rose-bush, by a strange chance, has been kept alive in history; but whether it had merely survived out of the stern old wilderness, so long after the fall of the gigantic pines and oaks that originally overshadowed it,or whether, as there is fair authority for believing, it had sprung up under the footsteps of the sainted Ann Hutchinson, as she entered the prison-door,we shall not take upon us to determine. Finding it so directly on the threshold of our narrative, which is now about to issue from that inauspicious portal, we could hardly do otherwise than pluck one of its flowers, and present it to the reader. It may serve, let us hope, to symbolize some sweet moral blossom, that may be found along the track, or relieve the darkening close of a tale of human frailty and sorrow. This opening chapter does all of the following EXCEPTA.establish the time period of the novelB.establish the geographaphical location of the novelC.establish the seasonD.introduce the novels themeE.introduce the main character Describe common qualities that consumers expect of their food.
