During the Great Depression, many people became homeless, hungry, and poor. In 1933, a new president, Franklin D. Roosevelt, was elected. He told America that he had a plan, called the New Deal, to get through the Great Depression. The New Deal placed regulations, or rules, on banks, the stock market, and businesses.
