Answers

Answer:

It was a regular chilly Thursday night in the town of Salem and Marvin was reading quietly at the library. The librarian phyllis knew he was a regular because he would go there every day after school and would trust him to lock up library on days when he was staying late. This day was like every other as phyllis would leave and Marvin would continue reading. A few moments pass and Marvin watched the lights in his corner of the library flicker. Watching lights flicker while reading a horror novel didn't exactly make him feel at ease. He just changed the lightbulb above him and fixed the problem and continued reading. Half an hour passes and teh lights flicker again and so Marvin goes to the electiricty room which was in the basement by the water heater. He went downstairs and opened the door and went inside the basment but heard the door shut behind him, he heard whispers and things scurrying around. At this point he was terrified, but had to keep his wits as any sane person would do. From the air vet above him fell a note which he thought was strange. Marvin opened the note and read "your life is in danger, say nothing to no anyone, you must leave immidiately and never return." After reading this Marvin started breathing quickly and his heart beat quickly. He ran up the stairs and banged on the door yelling, but his efforts were in vain as a dark figure he saw out of the corner of his eye, stabbed him in the heart from behind him. The light faded from his eyes and his final thoughts were, "Monsters are real."

The quotation from the poem "Ellis Island" that supports the theme "Immigration to America did not answer everyone’s dreams" is:c. my grandparents / waited the long days of quarantine, / after leaving the sickness,

This quote highlights the struggles and challenges that many immigrants faced upon arriving in America. Ellis Island was the gateway to America for millions of immigrants, and many had to undergo a long and arduous process of quarantine and screening before being allowed into the country. This experience was often difficult and traumatic for many immigrants who had already endured significant hardships in their home countries.

The theme of "Immigration to America did not answer everyone’s dreams" is further supported by the poem's description of the land as "Lands invaded / when the earth became owned." if you were to be stranded on a desert island and could have 3 items with you. but the 3 items have to fit in an ordinary backpack. what 3 items would you bring and why. describe each item fully and tell why you chose each one. 5 paragraph essay

Answers

If i were stranded on a desert I would bring a lighter, a tarp, and a knife. To survive humans need water, food, and protection against the weather and animals. There are many possibilities for thing you can bring but I believe that the three items I chose would give you the best chance of surviving.

The first thing I chose was a lighter. I would choose one that would not run out of fuel easily. The lighter would serve a couple of purposes. First, I would use it to start fires to keep warm. In the desert it can at times get really cold at night. Another purpose of the lighter would be to start a cooking fire or a signal fire. Meat needs to be cooked to eat and so do other foods. Boiling water can also purify it. A signal fire could alert planes and helicopters that I need help. In addition to all of these advantages a fire will help scare away animals at night.

The next item I would bring is a tarp. With the tarp I could make a shelter to protect me my the elements. This is important because being out can be a risk to your health. The tarp would protect me from the sun. Another use would be to collect dew or water. Rainwater is generally safe to drink so if the tarp is up and the corners up a little it will make a kind of bowl to collect water.

The last item I would bring is a knife. It could be used as protection against animals. The knife can also be used to kill animals for food. Another use is to cut down plants and sticks for a shelter and food. There are an large number of uses for a knife.

In conclusion, I believe the best items to be stranded with are a lighter, a tarp, and a knife. With these tools you would have the best chance of surviving. You can cook and cut up food, collect water, and start fires.

Read the paragraph from a research-based informative essay on automated vacuum cleaners.

Automated vacuum cleaners are now commonly used appliances. They cruise around living spaces, cleaning up debris and occasionally getting stuck behind sofas. These vacuums remove—at least for the most part—the need for a human involvement from this chore. Now hotel chains may begin adopting these automated vacuums to help clean guest rooms and conference centers. In an interview, the general manager of the Star Hotel in Oʻahu, Hawaii, acknowledged that, these vacuums make the cleaning process more efficient for my staff. If hotels are using these automated vacuum cleaners, perhaps it won’t be too long before they begin to roam airports, restaurants, and even supermarkets.

How should the writer revise the paragraph to correctly integrate the cited research from the interview with the hotel manager?

by adding source information in parentheses at the end of the quote
by adding quotation marks around the direct quote from the manager
